Are Alli Slimming Tablets a Safe Bet?

Alli slimming tablets were keenly anticipated. They were supposed to be the biggest thing for weight loss, destined to put all other slimming tablets in the shade. So what’s the true story?

The hype was caused by the fact that they are non-prescription, but just a lighter version of a successful existing brand. Orlistat is the main ingredient in Xenical and they are both prescription slimming tablets with positive effects on the obese.

These all work by interfering with the way that the body breaks down and absorbs fat during the digestion process. The prescription brands claim to stop about a third of dietary fat being broken down. It just passes straight through the body and out as lumps of fat in the stool.

Alli slimming tablets claim to stop a quarter of fat from being digested. This fat never gets into the body’s systems and cannot add to weight. It sounds like a slimmer’s wonder drug, but there are problems.

You are interfering with your digestive system and it takes a while to settle down. Especially at the start, you may find that the fatty nature of the waste caused by these slimming tablets produces strong smelling stools and an excess of wind. Some people also report that the fat stops the stool binding properly, which can leave you vulnerable to runny stools, which might sneak out early and cause embarrassment.

Alli can also interfere with the absorption of useful products you are consuming, such as prescription medicines, for example. Your doctor should be informed about the slimming tablets whilst considering any treatment.

Alli slimming tablets are not a wonder treatment for obesity or excess weight at any level. They only have a positive effect when combined with a proper diet and exercise regime. If you are eating more healthily anyway, you should be losing weight.

However, any fat you do eat will be reduced effectively by 25% so that overall, your weight loss should be about a quarter as much again as someone following the same regime without the slimming tablets.

Alli slimming tablets have about half as much of the active ingredients of the prescription versions and can be administered by pharmacists without prescription. They are not suitable for the very young or old or for people with special dietary needs, such as expectant mothers. However, for people with a high BMI, they are very interesting slimming tablets.
