As we all know, exercise and maintaining a healthy diet is the safest and most natural way to weight loss. Some people choose the easy way out and go under the knife, take for example, liposuction. Lately, a company named Zeltiq paved an innovative way to weight loss called ‘cryolipolysis.’

Unlike liposuction which involves anesthesia, incisions and months of recovery, cryolipolysis, at a faster rate, produces weight loss as a result by lessening fat, without all the mentioned hassle. It makes use of high-technology by cooling the skin which freezes fat cells and crystallizing them. The frozen fat cells, then, is not able to regenerate, which results to weight loss in over two months. Most of the fat that it triggers is located at the top of the abdomen and above the hips.

Cryotherapy spas were the first to use this method of using low temperatures in tightening the skin. Studies have shown that the sensitivity of fat cells to these cold temperatures results to them freezing and losing fat cells; thus, weight loss. Current studies support the facts of what happens to fat cells at freezing temperatures and its effects to weight loss. Clinical trials headed prove that the practice results to as high as 22.4% in fat reduction.

Although this procedure seems easy-peasy when it comes to weight loss, it has also proven to have side effects. Patients that have undergone this method for weight loss, attested that they felt numbness around the area, in which, after it wears off, aches, which then becomes sore. Despite these side-effects, patients still wants to push through with further treatments using cryolipolysis. Some comments are concerns on the damage brought on fat cells as it may result to cancer.

Given the presence of only a handful of studies, it is still unsure as to how safe cryolipolysis is as a way to weight loss. Moreover, the United States Food and Drug Administration have not given Zeltiq the go signal to use cryolipolysis as a method for fat removal. To add to this unfortunate fact, the procedure only proved its success rate to reach a mere few notches above 50%.

Weight loss produces all kinds of positive effects to the body, but only if done in the right manner. To sow good seeds is to harvest good fruits. Quick fixes like cryolipolysis are definitely a method for easy weight loss, but are you gaining the results that you need?
