A healthy diet is not all about the big meals. What do you eat between meals? Are there some things you should or should not have? Is it possible to sneak some healthy snacks into your healthy diet?

Actually, experts advise that eating little and often an easier way of achieving a healthy diet. By keeping your protein levels up and stomach topped up from time to time, you reduce the risk of pigging out on unhealthy, stodgy food you do not really need.

Carry around some grilled chicken, marinated in a little olive oil and pepper. Whenever you fancy a chew or feel a little pang of hunger, dip in to the tasty and low-fat snack. The protein will keep you going longer and there is no harm done to your healthy diet.

Another staple snack is hummus. Made properly with just chickpeas and some garlic, this is low-fat and very tasty. It is often eaten with pitta bread and is both feeling and full of protein, so your healthy diet will not suffer later as you run out of energy. Try eating it with a raw carrot or celery.

Yoghurts and smoothies are both excellent products for filling some time and a space in the stomach, whilst still maintaining that healthy diet. Any amount of fruit and veg can be turned into a healthy snack. These are both full of vitamins and antioxidants and should be part of any healthy diet anyway.

You might feel that all take-aways would be banned, but not so. Naturally fatty burgers and piles of chips will not help. However, a healthy diet can include fish and chips say once a week. A chicken shish kebab with salad and no chilli sauce is a healthy option. A fat-filled doner is out!

You may have forgotten that many vegetables taste best raw. Cast your mind back to picking the produce from your granddad’s garden. Carry around a pot of raw peas or beans, diced carrots or sliced cucumber. These are all tasty, filling and essential parts of the healthy diet you are following anyway.

Small amounts of chocolate of the highest quality will be helping with antioxidants. However, if you really want to snack on some tasty, high-energy food, forget the chocolate and add a banana. A little pot of raisins will do as well. Make it a healthy snack for a healthy diet.
