How to Stick to Your Diet during Festivities
As the year end starts getting closer, the reasons to celebrate seem getting numerous. The vacations, Christmas and New Year celebrations all seem to beckon at us. Well, there is nothing wrong about responding to the beckoning, but people who are on a strict diet have ample reasons to worry. Whether you are on a diet or not, vacations, entertainments, celebrations and festivities do throw our regular eating habits totally out of gear.
So how do you stay on a diet without acting as a spoil sport or kill-joy for others? That is exactly what this post is aimed at discussing, so read on. Have you ever realized that out of each 12 months of a year, we tend to spend 4 months in feasting on various occasions like Halloweens, Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, etc? And if that was not enough bad news, read this. Research based in USA reveals that, on an average, the end of the year brings in an additional baggage of 1 to 10 pounds. Its not simply the diet indiscretions that help to pile on the pounds. Vacations and cold winters are all major reasons for people to stop their outdoor activities and cut back on active exercise.

Majority of the folks, who are weight watching; prefer to take on the damage control approach. That explains the mad rush for gym or fitness club memberships, and desperate searches for diet plans for quick weight loss, after the vacations. But considering the fact that celebrations and festivities tend to recur every year, and taking note of the research findings that 4 months are being spent in festivities, such a damage control approach would only mean encouraging yo-yo dieting.
The best approach is a pro-active or preventive one. So the first useful tip to stay on a diet, without sacrificing the festive enjoyment, is to watch your portion size. You need not refuse eating what ever is being offered during festivities, if you can control your portion size. Eat minimal amounts instead of gorging.
Another excellent and more practical tip is to eat very small amounts of festive diet, and increasing the amount of work out to bur off the extra calories. Being on holiday need not mean sleeping in late into the afternoons. You could try sleeping early and getting up early to a wonderful session of intense work out. So you see now that staying on a diet and maintaining your weight during vacations is not that tough after all!
