Overview of Pilates Slimming Exercise

Pilates is a special type of exercise which claims to be of excellent assistance to you in your slimming endeavors. It is founded and developed by Joseph Pilates from Germany. The role of Pilates in aiding slimming is not firmly established but has a potential role.

Mr. Pilates was a sickly child and was frustrated. Desperate to improve his physical fitness he endeavored to innovate something and finally came out with this exercise technique. This is one of the popular exercises available to enhance the core strength of the body and improve the flexibility.

The six basic principles of Pilates include;

* Centering

* Precision

* Concentration

* Control

* Breathing

* Flowing movement

Opinion varies as to whether Pilates effectuates slimming. After all it is a form of exercise. In general most of the exercises do produce some slimming, but is the degree of slimming worth the time you invest on it? The routine Pilates is aimed mainly at strengthening your core muscles like abs & back muscles. This enhances your posture and stability. You look lean and more toned.

To lose weight and bring about effective slimming you need to burn lot of calories. Unless the body perceives any exercise as a burden, it is not going to burn many calories.

The routine Pilates are done focusing on posture, balance, tone etc. And this intensity may not be sufficient to cause slimming.

Ideally for Pilates to aid slimming you need to;

* Increase the intensity of Pilates

* Do it at a quicker rate.

* Increase the frequency of Pilate exercises

* Increasing resistance exerted during Pilates.

There are certain other recommendations too for slimming as listed below:

* To decrease resistance

* Incorporating equipments to your Pilates regime

The proponents of these above tips consider building muscle is equivalent to fat burning. There are some modified versions of the original Pilates e.g. Winsor Pilates Super Sculpting DVDs. Various Pilates related workouts are demonstrated in these DVDs. There are some reports of slimming with these modified Pilates version.

To summarize;

* It seems to help with improving posture, spine stability, muscle tome & balance

* Increasing the frequency, intensity, resistance and phase of Plates may aid in sliming

* Modified versions like Winsor Pilates DVDs may also assist slimming in many people, and client testimonials act as proof to the claims.
