The lemonade diet, a quick weight loss fix?
Lemonade diet is nothing short of a blessing for people who want to shed those irritating extra inches around their waist. This kind of diet is also popular as master cleanser diet and Stanley Burroughs was the person who conceptualized it. The lemonade diet or the cleansing juice diet is very beneficial and mainly practiced for almost 10 days at a stretch. Nice article, I would add however, that the maple syrup is a must as it aids in the cleansing of the intestines and provides essential nutrients–organic, Grade B Maple Syrup. There are other factors involved as well, such as an herbal laxative and sea salt so anyone seriously considering this cleansing would benefit greatly by doing a bit more research before diving in.

I had to post my experience here. I LOVE this cleanse/diet. I highly recommend picking up the book “The Master Cleanse” published years ago by Stanley Burroughs. It’s like $5 at any major bookstore…a small light yellow paperback that’s only about 50 pages.
I tried this about 10 years ago while in college. I was living on coffee and cheap food like Spagettios and refried beans. I was on a sports team, taking a full load of classes AND working 30 hours a week. I literally slept baout 3-4 hours a night with no down time at all. I was a wreck and felt like crap.
Someone told me about this and I started it. Since I was on so much caffeine and obviously living a toxic lifestyle, my head felt like it was going to explode about halfway through the first day. So I quit by the end of the first day. A month later tried it again. I made it until the end of the 2nd day when I was so starving AND had a headache, I gave up again. Just a week after that I was like, forget it! I HAVE to do this. I planned on 10 days and ended up doing 24 days! (You can do up to 40).
OH MY GOD. Believe me, just HANG IN THERE through the forst 48-72 hours and I swear you’ll be homefree. I literally craved the “lemonade” drink and although I hated the cayenne pepper the first 3 days (I don’t do spicy at all), I had DOUBLED it within a week. Loved the pepper. I didn’t have alot of weight to lose but without a lot of exercise at all, my body just TONED up or at least looked that way. The fat literally disappeared from my upper arms, tummy, thighs, etc. I kid you not, my mother thought I was anorexic, but she was confused because she also thought I was “glowing”. I was!
Anyway, like clockwork, I do this diet for 21 days at a time 4 times a year. I was raised on fast food and Southern cooking, but I’m now Vegan, NOT because I have any certain beliefs about it or anything, but because I FEEL FANTASTIC. I haven’t even had to set an alarm clock in 10 years and I sleep about 5 hours a night. I got into Yoga (my GOD I highly recommend it – just learn the breathing ALONE and you’ll be a different person I swear).
Anyway, this cleanse is the BEST out there. The stuff that will come out of you the first time you dod it (starting about day 3) will BLOW YOUR MIND. That’s one reason I just couldn’t go back to eating so much crap…after seeing what was stored inside my body.
Warnings: I don’t so the saltwater at all. It’s supposed to flush you out but it just bloated me! So, I drink “Smooth Move” Tea morning and night and am just fine.
If you make it to day 3 or later, DO NOT just fall off the wagon and go out and have french fries or something. It can actually hurt you. You’re body is kind of like “without armor” by the third day. You have to ease your way back into eating normally.
Don’t premix the cayenne pepper into the lemonade drink. Add it at the last minute, unless you like it when your mouth bursts into flames – lol.
Also, I have a TON OF FRIENDS who have done this specifically for weight loss and have lost awesome amounts of weight. Like 40 and 50 pounds in 21 days. I’m 5’9″, a size 4-6 (not too thin, I have a really small/tall bones structure) about 125-130 pounds and I lose a solid 4-6 pounds when I do this diet, of almost pure fat I think. Love this.
The diet calls for 2 tbsps of maple syrup per 8oz. of the lemonade drink. I do 2 tbsp because I’m not doing it to lose weight but if you DO NEED to lose weight, do 1 tbsp at the LEAST, or even like 2 drinks a day with 2 tbsp. and the rest of your drinks with 1 tbsp.
Finally, I’m on the run ALOT. So I actually wake up and down about 20 oz. of water, shower and get ready and then drink a 24 oz. container of the lemonade drink during the first couple of hours of my morning. Then I drink water all day and drink another 24-36 oz. in the last 4-5 hours before bed. That’s just me, but it works for me.
Hope that helps everyone! OH and I had a bad ulcer when I first started this thing back in college. Ulcer was healed…GONE. No joke. In fact, Stanley Burroughs originally came up with this cleanse for a buddy of his with an ulcer and it cured it. Amazing…lemon juice…whodda thunk it! Peace!

News flash: you are STARVING your body on this diet.
First thing that happens: Carbohydrates stored in your muscles for energy, which retain water, are used for energy. You lose the water stored with these carbohydrates, therefore you feel “leaner”.
When the carbohydrates in your body are used up, (8-24 hours), your body starts turning to alternative fuel.
Your body is using your MUSCLE as fuel. Muscle mass is the primary driver for rate of metabolism. So you are losing muscle mass, slowing your metabolism, and therefore, when you go back to eating normal, your body burns less calories even if you did nothing (your “REE” – resting energy requirements) will drop.
True, you will burn some fat, but think of the long term effects of this diet.
Lastly, your telling your body that food is no longer available to it. Therefore, next time you consume food, your body compensates by storing more fat “just incase” you starve it again. Its protecting itself.
Safe, maintainable weight loss is 1-2 lbs/week, with a MINIMUM of 1000 kcal a day, preferrably not less than 1200kcal. In my profession we aim to decrease energy intake by 250 kcal, and increase energy expenditure by about 250 kcal. This will facilitate a weightloss of atleast 1 lb per week. This is something to speak to a doctor or dietitian about though.
I can 100 percent guarantee that if you do try this diet, you will absolutely gain the weight back. This is a “quick fix” and weight loss takes commitment to a lifestyle change.
I strongly recommend you fully question the authenticity of what is promoted around the web, and question who is writing what.
We agree with the above statement. To be honest the “lemonade diet” is a misleading title to give this regime. It’s much more of a detox of fasting cleanse than a diet.
