You can buy mayonnaise with a reduced fat content so try these. Use mayonnaise frugally at home. You may want to try a combination of reduced fat mayonnaise mixed with low fat plain yoghurt with a squeeze of citrus fruit for a creamy dressing
Yes and no. It all depends what you put in your salads and what type of dressing you put on them. Many salads are drowning in dressings or mayonnaise so if you are eating in a restaurant, ask for the dressing to be served seperately and be sparing with the amount you use. If you are on a low carbohydrate diet, be careful with rice salad, couscous, bulghar wheat etc. Choose instead vegetable based salads rather than salads consisting of carbohydrates.
In many countries, including the USA and Australia, food portions are becoming larger and larger.So be careful with the quantities you eat. Many restaurants in the USA do not mind you sharing a meal with your friend or partner. Doggy-bags are common so if you do not want to waste food, ask for the remainder of your meal to be packed up. Be careful that you keep the food cool. Enjoy your trip but eat wisely so you will not gain weight while touring around. And don't forget your 2 liter water per day!
Holidays are there to be enjoyed and you may feel tempted to give yourself more treats. Many restaurants in holiday resorts offer steak and chips, fish and chips. pasta, pizza and so on. So be careful in making your choices. How about leaving the chips and ask for some extra salad or cooked vegetables. If you are in an all-inclusive package deal be vigilant at breakfast time. If there is a buffet, limit what you put on your plate and do not go for seconds. When on the beach, try to drink sufficient water and stay clear from ice creams. Be careful with the alcohol . And if you can, get moving by going for a walk, play some ball games on the beach, go for a swim. Treat yourself from time to time and accept you will need to be extra careful upon your return.
Porridge oats are a slow acting carbohydrate and is also said to help in lowering cholesterol. Made with water or with skimmed milk, porridge can help you in controlling your diet. But do not pour syrup and cream on it. Eat is as is is. If you make it with water, add a few tablespoons of low fat yoghurt, a couple of nuts and some berries for a great breakfast which will see you through until lunch. If you really need to sweeten your porridge oats, use a tiny bit of honey.
