Despite it's name, the Israeli Army Diet has no actual association with the Israeli Army. Gaining popularity in the 1970's, this fad diet was promoted as being based on the diet for new recruits of the Israeli Defence Forces.
The premise of the diet was to eat only one type of food per day for eight days. Below is the diet plan:
-
Days One - Two: Apples (black tea/coffee allowed)
-
Days Three - Four: Cheese (black tea/coffee allowed)
-
Days Five - Six: Chicken (black tea/coffee allowed)
-
Days Seven - Eight: Salad (black tea/coffee allowed)
It is not hard to see that the lack of variety made this diet incredibly hard to follow for the entire eight days and the lack of nutritional content lead to critisism from doctors and nutritionists which lead to the decline of it's popularity.
