Weight Loss Guide Introduction
If you are serious about wanting to lose weight, then this is definitely the programme for YOU. Within, you will find lots of information about your body, how it works and what it needs to survive – as well as how to lose fat effectively – FOR GOOD.
In this day and age, there is a lot of pressure to conform to certain images of skinny women, or lean muscular men. As a result of this, many “normal” people feel inadequate and unhappy about the way they look. We have become so concerned with how we look that we are prepared to go to almost any length to try an achieve the body beautiful – something that for most of us is unachievable and completely unrealistic. Inevitably this leads to disappointment. Everyone I know would like to change some part of their body – and that includes me! The reality is there are some things we cannot change, height for example, but the good news is we can change or re-shape some parts of our body we are not happy with.

Unfortunately many people abuse their bodies with months, or even years of poor diets, often without even realising it. They follow the latest fad or diet craze, taken in by false promises and expectations. Even though some of these diets result in short term drastic weight loss, they can be very dangerous. Usually, as soon as you finish the diet, you regain the weight and often lots more besides.
Apart from the physically negative effects of losing and regaining large amounts of weight, it also has a negative effect on how you feel about yourself, your physical appearance, your ability to succeed generally and your self esteem generally. The weight cycling usually occurs because you were not on a well balanced diet, and your body wasn’t getting the amount of food and or nutrients that you need to stay healthy. Or it may occur because you did not prepare yourself for coping with the everyday “high risk” situations that we inevitably find ourselves in. We all need to learn how to cope with temptation, and although this aspect of weight loss is often neglected, you will find more information on this later in the programme as it is crucial to enable you to succeed in the long term.
You will also learn how to set realistic goals. You will lose body fat if you follow this programme, there’s no doubt about that; but it will not be an overnight change, it’s not a magic pill, just as it took you some time to become overweight, it will take some time (though maybe less than you think) to lose it, so that it stays off, for good.
So what are you expecting as you start out? If you are hoping for a miracle you may be disappointed, but if you are expecting realistic results, and to learn how to make changes in your life, to understand and manage your body and your shape, perhaps drastically improve your health, you are in the right place.
As you read, you will learn that by re-educating yourself, you can become healthier and slimmer at the same time. The majority of dieters feel anything from mild apprehension, to dread, at the thought of going on yet another diet. Know now, this book is DIFFERENT. I am not trying to sell you some miracle pill or potion that will automatically solve all of your problems. I have looked at weight loss from every angle, not just what you put in your mouth: a successful permanent weight loss programme has to offer much more than that. I will tell you exactly how and why you gain fat, why your body naturally changes shape as you get older, and what you can do about it, and why most diets simply don’t work. I will explain why exercise or activity is so important and how to choose the best form of activity for you. We will also look at some of the psychology of dieting (why do we do it?) what you can realistically expect to achieve, and most importantly, how you can achieve it.
Health professionals are well aware that in order to achieve long term weight loss, long term changes in behaviour must take place. If you only want temporary changes, then only make temporary changes. This means changes to eating habits as well as building into your life some kind of activity or exercise, however gentle.
As a profession, we health “experts” are united on this issue. There is no debate. We know it’s true. If you want to lose weight, eat less and move more. Its as simple as that. In spite of this, some unscrupulous companies, more interested in increasing their bank balance than reducing your waistline, spend millions of dollars convincing us that they have the next “quick fix”. This kind of marketing is very cruel.
The truth is, that none of the quick fix diets, including pills, replacement meals and drinks, teach you how to change the behaviours that got you fat in the first place, or give you long term success once you start eating normal foods again. They can even reduce your metabolic rate and make you even more prone to weight gain. I will explain more about this later in the programme.
I have written this programme to dispel the myths for you, so that YOU can succeed. It may just be one of the most important books you ever read. I encourage you to read it from start to finish. You will also find it very valuable to dip in and out of from time to time whenever you need to, to remind yourself and top up on certain points and tips.
I wish you success, my goal, is to help you to achieve your goal. It will also help you to become fitter and healthier, and to get more out of all aspects of your life. That has to be good!
